What to See in Marbella Before Dinner

If you’ve already booked a table for dinner at Brasas Steak House, you’ve been given the perfect excuse to arrive a little early and wander around the town centre. The restaurant is situated right on Plaza José Palomo right in the heart of Marbella’s historic centre, and there’s no doubt that the stroll to the restaurant is almost as enjoyable as the dinner itself – which we’ll talk about in detail later.

If you can, set off whilst there’s still some light left – especially if you’re visiting in summer, as you’ll have plenty of time left after a day at the beach. And it’s easy to do so: in our city, let yourself be surprised; lose yourself in the old town and let it lead you at its own pace, rather than rushing to tick things off your list. The streets are designed with shade in mind, not cars, so they wind and narrow in such a way that getting a little lost is part of the pleasure, rather than a problem to be solved.

When traveling in Marbella Old Town…

Be sure to visit the Plaza de los Naranjos, just a few minutes’ walk from the restaurant. It’s the sort of square that’s often photographed and shared on social media, but without a doubt, the orange trees planted in the 16th century, the Renaissance-style town hall on one side and the bar terraces buzzing with a great atmosphere are best experienced in person.

If there’s a free bench, sit down for five minutes. It’s well worth taking a break to watch the square transition from the light of the the light of the evening.

If you’re interested in a quieter, more reflective stop, the  Encarnación Church is close by and worth stepping into, even briefly. Its baroque façade stands out against the simplicity of the surrounding whitewashed houses, and the interior offers a cool, calm break from the heat if you’re visiting in summer. You don’t need long here — ten minutes is enough to appreciate it without feeling like you’re cutting into your evening.

For anyone who prefers open air and a bit of green before a heavier meal, the Parque de la Alameda is an easy addition to the route. It’s one of the oldest public gardens in the region, with mature trees, ceramic benches, and a fountain that make it a pleasant place to slow your pace right before sitting down to eat. From the park, it’s a short, comfortable walk back toward the restaurant, and by then you’ll likely have worked up exactly the kind of appetite a good dry-aged steak deserves.

None of this requires a plan, really. The Old Town is compact enough that you can’t wander too far from Plaza José Palomo without noticing you’ve circled back. That’s part of what makes an evening in Marbella feel unhurried — you can explore first and still walk into Brasas Steak House right on time, ready for a table, a glass of  wine, and a cut of meat cooked properly over charcoal.
